For Penina, A Family Tradition Lights Her Path to Success

Bramsom ORT College 2014 graduate Penina Goldstein and her mother, Susan.

“I feel that Bramson ORT College changed my life, it helped me mature, and it really made my first college experience worthwhile.”

Born and raised in a strict Orthodox home in Kew Gardens Hills, NY, Penina Goldstein went to Jewish day schools throughout high school and following graduation, attended a Jewish seminary in Jerusalem, Israel.

A burgeoning interest in graphic design during her high school years prompted her to pursue the field professionally. In choosing the ideal program to fit her goals, it turned out that she had an perfect role model right at home.

Her mother, Susan Barth Goldstein, earned an Associate’s Degree in Occupational Studies at Bramson ORT College in 1986. Drawing on her own positive time at Bramson ORT, Susan took her daughter for a tour of the school. One of the graphic design teachers invited Penina to sit in on his class and she came away impressed by the hands-on training on advanced software and hardware. The experience proved so powerful that she was convinced that Bramson ORT was the right place for her to get an education, and in a Jewish environment too.

Taking classes at night for a year and a half to earn a certificate in graphic design, Penina benefitted from professors who enhanced her technical skills and challenged her day-to-day thinking by encouraging her to make sure all of her work was not only top-notch, but represented the fullest expression of her abilities. Small classes made it possible for her to get individualized instruction and guidance.  Her fellow classmates, many older, eagerly exchanged ideas on projects and helped one other spark their imaginations.

“People have come to me and asked me about my college and I’ve said that Bramson ORT is really helpful. I’ve also told them that I am sure Bramson will help you, go look into it, it’s a great program; they really help you succeed along the way.”
